Introduction to plants in the Tundra biome.
There is barely any vegetation in the tundra biome due to its cold climate and environment. All plants that do live in the tundra are well adapted to heavy winds and soil disturbances and the fact that there are no root deep root systems. Approximately 1,700 types of plants in total inhabit the artic tundra. Some plants that can be found there include low shrubs, hedges, reindeer mosses and grasses. Nevertheless, the alpine tundra consists of less vegetation with very similar plants to the arctic. They include grasses, dwarf trees and small-leafed shrubs. There are also roughly 400 species of flowers in the tundra. At the points where there is high altitude, no trees will grow – they only grow in lower altitudes.
